Educating Girls, Empowering Generations

At SLIRD, we understand that educating girls is the foundation of long-term national progress. Yet, thousands of girls in Sierra Leone still face barriers like early marriage, poverty, and lack of sanitary resources that prevent them from staying in school.

Our education initiatives are designed to break these barriers through research-driven, community-led interventions.

What We’re Doing:

  • Supporting school re-entry programs for teenage mothers
  • Distributing dignity kits and menstrual health education
  • Training teachers on gender-sensitive classroom practices
  • Partnering with communities to challenge harmful norms

A Story That Inspires:

Aminata, age 15, from Bo District, dropped out due to financial challenges. Through our scholarship and mentorship program, she returned to school and now dreams of becoming a nurse. She is one of 300+ girls we’ve supported this year alone.

Investing in girls’ education is investing in peace, prosperity, and a better Sierra Leone.
